Her eyes well up with tears as she listens to the nurse explain how serious his condition is. When she hangs up, she turns back to the detectives and tells them everything she knows about the incident.

They thank her for her cooperation and promise to keep her updated on the investigation. As they leave, the woman walks out onto the porch where the sun has now set completely. She takes a deep breath of fresh air and thinks back to all that has transpired during the day.

Despite the trauma she experienced, she feels grateful for having survived such a harrowing experience. And although she doesn't know yet whether her son will make it, she remains hopeful that things will work out somehow.
