Pancho Villa was a notorious Mexican revolutionary who fought against the government of Mexico during the early twentieth century. He led his army to victory after victory until he was eventually captured by the Mexican military in 1916. After being imprisoned, Pancho Villa managed to escape from prison and fled into exile in El Paso, Texas where he continued to lead his rebel forces.

In 1923, President Álvaro Obregón ordered General Plutarco Elias Calles to capture him once again but this time they failed miserably as Villa's men ambushed them and killed many soldiers before escaping back across the border into Juarez, Chihuahua. The incident became known as "The Battle of Carrizal" which marked one of the most significant victories for Villa's rebels.
